NAMIBIË-BOTSWANA-ZIMBABWE 2014.

INLEIDING.

Van 12 09 2014 tot en met 13 10 2014 maakten Berna en ik een natuurreis naar Namibië, Botswana en Zimbabwe.
Het reis idee kwam van onze Duitse vriend Rainer Gülden, die ons twee jaar geleden al vroeg of we hier zin in hadden. Uiteraard vonden wij het een pracht plan.
Aanvankelijk zouden we samen met zijn vrouw Helga met z’n vieren op pad gaan. In de loop van de tijd vroeg hij of wij er bezwaar tegen hadden als er nog een paar andere Duitse en Zwitserse vrienden mee gingen. Uitgaande van de gedachten: Met meer personen is de reis wellicht veiliger, vonden wij dat prima.

Elk stel had zijn eigen auto gehuurd: Toyota Hilux met dubbele cabine met tent op het dak, incluisief kampeerspullen.
Wij boekten onzen huurauto bij Caprivi Car Hire / Windhoek inclusief vervoer van en naar vliegveld: Hosea Kutako / Windhoek met de uitstekende bemiddeling van

Huren via Edgar bleek niet alleen het goedkoopste te zijn, maar hij kwam ook nog persoonlijk langs om de geplande reis te bespreken en ons te adviseren. Alle vragen werden beantwoord en later was hij een vraagbaak bij onduidelijkheden. Huren via Edgar Peijnenborgh is zeker te adviseren.

Ook Rainer en Helga en Dietrich en Kirsten boekten via HTTP://WWW.AUTOHUURNAMIBIE.NL .

Urs en Elsbeth boekten via Asco en waren beduidend ( 1000 euro) duurder uit en hadden geen dubbele cabine, hetgeen ik wel iedereen kan adviseren om te regelen.

De schade tijdens de reis aan de auto’s betrof voor Kirsten en Dietrich een lekke band en een gescheurde bumper als gevolg van een te harde aanraking met een boomstam . Berna en ik hadden 2 lekke banden. In Swakopmund kon er één band gemaakt worden, maar de tweede band moest nieuw gekocht worden.

De auto’s hadden een dubbele tank met een 2 x 70 liter diesel inhoud = 140 liter. Dat is goed voor minimaal 1200 kilometer. Dit is wel essentieel, aangezien er reizend door Botswana geen mogelijkheid is om te tanken, behalve in de steden, zoals voor ons Maun en Kasane.
Als je alleen een 70 liter tank hebt, neem dan extra jerrycans mee.
Bij nagenoeg alle tankstations moesten we cash betalen of er nu wel of geen stickers van verschillende creditcards op het raam zaten.

We kozen voor de maanden september / oktober, omdat het dan aan het einde van de droge periode was, waardoor het water zich concentreert bij de drinkpoelen. Hierdoor is het wild geconcentreerd en daardoor gemakkelijker te lokaliseren. Water trekt aan.
Bij eerder vertrek dan zouden we in het vakantie hoogseizoen van de Zuid Afrikanen zitten en later vertrek is er meer kans op regen.

Stroom.

Voor stekkeraansluitingen kochten we een driepolige verloopstekker bij de Spar in Windhoek.
In grote gedeelten van Botswana was er überhaupt geen stroomaansluiting.
Voor het opladen van mijn camerabatterijen en de Mobiele telefoon had ik een Yanec Universal Charger met de autosigarettenaanstekercontact via internet: www.replacedirect.nl gekocht voor nog E29,95. Deze werkte naar verwachting goed.

Neem in ieder geval goede schijnwerpers mee, waaronder voor iedere persoon een “mijnwerkersschijnwerper” voor op het hoofd, want het is ’s nachts echt donker.

Inkopen.

Doe voor je verlaten gebieden in gaat eerst inkopen in de grote supermarkten in de Steden.
Wij kochten ruimschoots in in Windhoek, Maun en Kasane.
Zorg voor voldoende water. Wij gingen hierbij uit van minimaal 5 liter per dag.

Geld.

Geld opnemen met de op “wereldopneemstand” ingestelde ING kaart ging meestal zonder problemen.

Namibië: Namibische dollars ( 100 Namibische dollars = 0,72 Euro )
Botswana: Pula ( 100 Pula = 0,80 Euro )
In Zimbabwe betaalden we met Euro, Pula en/of Namibische dollar.

Vaccinaties

Informeer bij de GGD welke inentingen nodig zijn voor Botswana, Namibië en /of Zimbabwe. Regel dit niet op het laatste moment, maar 6 weken of eerder voor vertrek.

Ik kreeg Gammaglobuline tegen Hepatitis A.
DTP ( Difterie, Tetanus, Polio ) moet elke 10 jaar herhaald worden. Dit betekende voor dat ik weer aan een herhaling toe was.
De Malaria preventie hadden wij gedurende onze “droge”tijd niet nodig. In de regentijd is dat wel zo.

Wij dronken alleen mineraal (fles)water. Let bij aankoop van de fles, dat de dop niet eerder geopend is geweest. De fles kan anders met kraanwater hervult zijn. Neem geen ijs!!
Wij namen geen salades en verse groente die met water schoongespoeld waren. Alleen gekookt of gebakken. Wij namen alleen fruit uit de schil.

DE GOUDEN REGEL:
“ALS JE HET KAN BAKKEN, KOKEN OF PELLEN, DAN KAN JE HET ETEN,
ANDERS KAN JE HET ETEN WEL VERGETEN”

Onderweg kochten we hout voor het kampvuur. Dit was niet alleen voor de gezelligheid, maar ook bijvoorbeeld in Ihaha – Chobe – Botswana zelfs verplicht om zo de Leeuwen op afstand te houden.

De vogel maakte zich erg druk over zijn spiegelbeeld, waarbij steeds onder de autospiegel ging hangen en hard met de snavel tegen het spiegelbeeld tikte. Uiteindelijk heb ik maar een doek over de spiegel gehangen, hetgeen rust gaf.
